Meeting Growing Demand for Fodder Beet
Clausen has noticed a clear trend in the region: more cattle farmers are reintroducing fodder sugar beet to their crop rotations.
“We are seeing a trend where more and more cattle farmers are starting to grow fodder sugar beet again, and I am sure that more will follow suit. This has resulted in increasing demand for beet row cleaning here on our own farm. That is why we have chosen to invest in this row cleaner from Kverneland, which is brand new on the market.”
Multi-Crop Capabilities
Although primarily bought for beet, the Kverneland Onyx 3064 has already proven versatile:
200 hectares of beet cleaned
50 hectares of sorghum cultivated
15 hectares of sunflowers cleaned three times for biogas production
Clausen adds:
“In the long term, we may also use it to weed spinach.”
Designed for Precision and Speed
The Onyx 3064 inter-row cultivator offers several features that improve efficiency and crop protection:
12-row configuration with 50 cm row spacing
Hydraulic parallelogram suspension for stable movement and weight transfer
Dual camera control to steer precisely between rows
Goosefoot blades between rows for effective weeding
L-blades to prevent soil from covering small plants (with optional disc blades available)
This design allows the cultivator to run at high speeds without throwing soil over the rows — protecting young plants from damage.
“It runs very precisely in the rows and works efficiently in the crops we have tried it in,” says Poul Erik Clausen.
Low Power Requirement, High Output
Despite its size, the Onyx 3064 does not require much tractor power. Clausen highlights its efficiency across different crops and soil conditions:
“The Kverneland Onyx 3064 inter-row cultivator does not require a great deal of traction.”
